About
Horizon Project is a General Residential Operation (GRO), based in the Greater Houston area of Spring, TX, that is designed to help boys aged 7 to 17 with emotional or behavioral problems return to a healthier, more productive, and less restrictive environment. Horizon Project is a fully licensed facility, meeting all applicable Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) standards. Horizon Project provides a safe, sanitary, and nurturing environment that fosters each child's self-worth.
Founded in 2022, Horizon Project is a brand new GRO, but consists of employees with many years of experience.
Multidisciplinary Team
Horizon Project is dedicated to the belief that every child with an emotional disorder is a unique individual, whose personal identity must be respected and developed. The multidisciplinary team, consisting of a psychiatrist, social workers, Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC), Licensed Child-Care Administrators (LCCA), childcare workers, and educational specialists, provides a therapeutic milieu, which emphasizes interpersonal skills and communication. All professional members of the multidisciplinary team are trained and licensed.
Comprehensive Treatment Plan
Each child at Horizon Project is recognized as a unique individual with special needs and skills. A comprehensive treatment plan, developed by the multidisciplinary team, addresses these special needs and skills. The treatment plan sets goals and criteria to evaluate progress.
Services
The treatment program at Horizon Project includes intensive individual and group therapy for troubled teens and children, which addresses underlying factors that contribute to the emotional and behavioral problems of the adolescent. Adjunctive therapies, including occupational, art, and recreation, are also important components of the total treatment process. Horizon Project offers drug rehabilitation counseling for residents as well.
Education
Residents at Horizon Project are served by the Klein Independent School District, which offers one of the finest school programs in the Houston area. As residents of the Klein School District, the children at Horizon Project will benefit from an extensive array of educational and social activities.
Admissions Policy
We accept referrals for children and teens aged 7 to 17. The acceptance of an applicant is based on the assessment of the multidisciplinary team. Placement decisions are made following an assessment of the child's psychological evaluation, social history, medical history, and any other relevant information. We typically serve those adolescents whose behavior or emotional problems require an environment that contains guidelines and limitations.
Objectives
Horizon Project is a 24-hour General Residential Operation (GRO) that offers a group living environment for youth. The highly structured level system provides a forum in which the residents can learn to express their feelings, work though problems, accept responsibility, and learn the social skills that will enable them to enter a less restrictive environment.
